How It All Started
When we, Aamion and Daize Goodwin, traveled the world with our toddler and newborn in 2011, we carried stickers that had a simple yet powerful statement, “Slow Yourself Down”.
People from all over the world were resontating with the message and from there, Slow Yourself Down was born.
In 2013, we bought a shave ice truck in Hanalei and went to work. It was a commitment that was new to us, as we’d been professional athletes for over a decade.
We also thought, “lets make a few Slow Your Self Down shirts and see if they sell.”
They did sell and from there, we built a little store-front off the back of the shave ice truck and started spreading the message to slow down to the visitors that came through the little town of Hanalei.
The Slow Yourself Down Compound
Nestled in the heart of Hanalei, the Slow Yourself Down compound is a vibrant hub of creativity and community. The energy here is unmatched, radiating from every corner of this unique space. It all began with the Wishing Well Shave Ice truck, a beloved local fixture that quickly became a cornerstone of the compound.
From there, our vision expanded to include a retail location for Slow Yourself Down, offering an array of thoughtfully curated organic cotton clothing and accessories. The latest addition, the Wishing Well Coffee & Tea House, is just steps away, creating a seamless flow between these inviting spaces.
Murals by artist Kevin Ancell adorn the walls, infusing the space with a dynamic, artistic spirit. These vibrant artworks not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also capture the essence of the compound’s ethos—an appreciation for art, community, and craftsmanship. The result is a harmonious blend of functional spaces and artistic expression, creating an environment that is as inspiring as it is welcoming.
Walking through the compound, one can feel the dedication and passion that has gone into every detail. From the murals that tell stories of the local culture to the thoughtfully designed interiors, the Hanalei compound is a testament to the vision and hard work of the Slow Yourself Down & Wishing Well team. The emphasis on quality extends to every corner of our compound. Benches and tables, crafted from locally milled wood by Aamion, are just one example of our dedication to using the best materials.
Simplicity is another cornerstone of our brand's philosophy. By focusing on clean, timeless designs and high-quality materials, we aim to create products that are both beautiful and functional. It’s about stripping away the unnecessary and celebrating the essence of what truly matters.

It was important to us to make the compound itself a living gallery, with hand-painted murals by Kevin Ancell. These murals, scattered throughout the compound, create a relaxing environment that celebrates creativity and artistic expression.
Beyond the physical artworks, the integration of art extends to all facets of our brand. Sonora Mindwerl, our in-house designer, plays a pivotal role in our vision. Her creativity is showcased in every element, from the art work on our clothing, to the digital menus at the coffee house and to the designs in our jar recipe book. This approach ensures that every interaction with our brand is infused with a sense of creativity and aesthetic pleasure.
